August 9, 2010 - Donna C. Otto, MSN, RN, was recognized as NSNA’s Leader of Leaders during the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) 58th Annual Convention in Orlando, FL.
The Leader of Leaders Award, sponsored by Elsevier, proud publisher of Mosby and Saunders nursing titles, is presented to an outstanding dean, faculty advisor, or state consultant who has provided exceptional commitment to his or her students and to NSNA.
Ms. Otto is a Clinical Instructor of Nursing and Director of Alumni Relations at the University of Missouri Sinclair School of Nursing in Columbia, Missouri. Having been with the Sinclair School of Nursing for nearly 28 years, she is the current instructor for the Role Transitions and Leadership & Management courses. She is celebrated by students and faculty alike for her ability to be an understanding educator who is not afraid to challenge and push her students to be the best they can be.
Among her many other activities and achievements, Ms. Otto holds recent honors include the 2009 Betty Crim Faculty Enhancement Award (Sinclair School of Nursing), and the 2009 Excellence in Nursing Leadership Award (Sigma Theta Tau).
Nominated by this year’s Spirit of Nursing winner, Becky Arand, Ms. Otto is an active member in Sigma Theta Tau and the American Nurses Association. She continues to motivate her students to become or remain involved in professional organizations and pushes them to achieve everything that the nursing profession has to offer. Says Arand, “She sets the standards in professional leadership and excellence. She is a talented nurse, teacher, leader and for me personally, a mentor.”
