1-Minute Clinicals: Breast Cancer

  • Print Page

Are you aware that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States other than skin cancer?

Here are some need-to-know statistics:

  • Breast cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in women after lung cancer

  • Approximately 178,480 U.S. women will be found to have invasive breast cancer in 2007

  • About 40,460 women will die from the disease

  • The possibility of dying from breast has decreased but remains at about 1 in 35

Sadly enough, the chance of a woman being diagnosed with invasive breast cancer some time during her life is almost one in eight. Although it is believed that early detection and improved treatments methods have reduced the death rate, much more needs to be done to prevent the ongoing loss of life from this disease.

At this time there are approximately two and a half million breast cancer survivors in the United States. Fore more information, go to the American Cancer Society's Web site.
