January 15, 2014 - For the second year in a row, AMN Healthcare has partnered with HELPS International, a charitable non-profit corporation founded in 1984, whose mission is to alleviate medical problems in Guatemala's rural indigenous areas. Working together, AMN and HELPS International will be providing U.S. hospital-standard healthcare from highly trained medical/surgical volunteers to people who do not have access to basic healthcare and are locked in a cycle of poverty and hopelessness.

Volunteer Nurses and Physicians Sought for Medical Mission to Guatemala
Nurse volunteers are sought for a medical mission trip to provide care for a rural population in San Cristobal, Guatemala. The medical team will depart March 29, 2014.

AMN is currently seeking medical volunteers to assist a 75-member medical team going to San Cristobal, Guatemala; the team will be leaving on March 29, 2014, and returning to the United States on April 9. Volunteer applications are due by January 24 (see below).

Team Esperanza will consist of general, OB/GYN, plastic and eye surgeons; dentists; pharmacists; operating room and recovery nurses; general practitioner physicians; and anesthesiologists and CRNAs. For one week, the team will provide surgeries and routine medical care to people who would otherwise be without such services.

The $2,125-per-person cost will be sponsored and fully paid for by AMN Healthcare. Health care professionals who make the trip may need to pay for a few meals in Antigua, and of course are being asked to donate their time, medical skills and compassion.

The following medical volunteers are needed and will be considered for sponsorship by AMN Healthcare:

•  Surgical/Circulating nurses

•  Recovery nurses

•  Anesthesiologists or CRNAs

•  Scrub technicians

•  Pediatricians

•  General family practice physicians

Volunteer applications due January 24, 2014

If you are qualified, available and interested in being considered for this special, life-changing trip, please send your CV or résumé, a short paragraph on why you want to join the team, and your complete contact information to the attention of Steve When, AMN’s vice president of community relations at community.connections@amnhealthcare.com.

Your request for consideration must be received no later than January 24, 2014. Your information will then be forwarded to HELPS International to be reviewed by the medical director of the medical mission trip for final consideration and selections.

All medical volunteers selected for the trip will stay in a hotel in Guatemala City the first night, travel by bus to the hospital in San Cristobal, Cobán, and stay in the hospital for one week. The sleeping arrangements are dormitory style, using cots and sleeping bags. There are bathroom and shower facilities in the hospital. The trip will be completed with some time for rest and relaxation, including a three-night stay in Hotel Casa Santo Domingo, and will conclude with a team banquet on the last evening. Volunteers will return to the United States on April 9, 2014.
